City of Light, a Search
I lost this book somewhere along the way. Why?? - It’s not the kind kept behind the counter at a used bookstores. Worse, all my books by Doane are gone. I must have liked them since I had at least two Doane novels in hardcover.
I am posting this here for my own reference. It was impossible for me to find this book online. I mean it was hard to find any evidence of the book ever existing. I searched for city of light and city of lights with no success - as if i just made up the memory.
Until I happened to finally remember his last name. As soon as I added “Doane” I found the books. On Amazon - as if they were still in print. So this post is so that next time I wont have to bother searching. Also as a kind of warning about how search results over-determine perceived reality.
I had no memory of what the book was about. Just knew ‘city of light’ ( or lights ). And that I had several of the author’s books. Finally, just now, I read the blurb ( is that the right word ? ) on Amazon:
”Working for a small organization monitoring international human rights violations, Thomas Zane is plunged into a nightmarish labyrinth of African politics, betrayal, torture, and death, when he investigates the mysterious killing of his best friend”
When I read that my first thought was not only would I have read the book but I would have wanted to book a flight. Sadly there are no Doane audio-books that i can find.
So this is really just a note-to-self entry. I may end up getting this book again but its not like i have the time to read it.
