Little Libraries
After a decade+ of Audible and podcasts I returned to sort my older book collections.
I thought I’d be subversive by dropping off some of my favorites at all the little libraries in the Point and the city beyond.
But I saw fast that my bookshelves were the ones needing fresh ideas, more women writers, younger voices, diversity. I have ten or twenty years of books to catch up on. But I am not abandoning this idea just because my old books are … old. I am going to make this site anyway and drop off books I think should be read.
But then I will be acquiring new independent, radical or simply more interesting books myself. I feel obligated to now get books that are not on Audible or even on Amazon.
For example - in 20 minutes on the akpress site last week I found 4 books that I ‘have’ to get right away. Alas, Öcalan’s Democratic Civilization trilogy wont be on audible any time soon.
I found an interesting bookstamp at etsy and had it personalized:
“Libbra porta A Liberto”
That is Sicilian for either “books lead to freedom”, or "I carry free books".
So I guess it fits both of my little projects here.
The email address below the stamp is alibert (at) alsunseri.com so please
Feel free to say hi, suggest books, critique etc.
That is not my normal e-mail address but I will check it at some point.
